Metal plated plastics material today has a lot of application. Many chromium plated parts in our environment are made of polymeric material which is cheaper, easier to mould and has less weight than metals-the latter today counts especially in the automotive industry where weight reduction is on demand. Although many kinds of plastics like polyamides (Nylon) or polypropylene can be plated with metals, most often ABS or its alloy with polycarbonate is used as base material.There will be some new development in the future, because the plastic industry is rather young: the first polymeric material is not older than hundred years, and the techniques to apply metals adhesively have developed in the late fifties of the 19th century, starting from the already known method for producing mirrors
